It has been quite a while since RIM was last in the news and we are now glad to introduce the Blackberry Pearl 8120. The device comes to succeed the Blackberry Pearl 8100 and upgrades the original model in several areas. The first and most important change is the added Wi-Fi functionality, which was missing in the older model. There is an update in the Bluetooth department too, with A2DP support now available. It seems that RIM are trying to break away from the strictly business image of their handsets by enhancing multimedia capabilities. Besides Bluetooth, the camera has been boosted from 1.3 megapixel in the Blackberry Pearl 8100 to 2.0 megapixel in the newly announced device.
Blackberry Pearl 8120 also features video recording. Moreover, the playable video formats now include WMV in addition to the MPEG4 and H.263. Luckily, the added functionality has not resulted in any increase in dimensions and the new Pearl still stands at the compact 107 x 50 x 14 mm with only weight grown by 2 grams to a total of 91 (sounds reasonable).
The device is available through Telefonica in Spain but, as of now, there is no information regarding availability in other countries.
